The Port of Kalama has developed a Pedestrian/Bicycle Pathway System with funding assistance and support from Cowlitz County, City of Kalama, Washington Transportation Improvement Board and Washington State Department of Transportation. The implemented plan was winner of the 1993 Washington State Enhancement Project of the Year Award.

Over 1.8 miles of paved and boardwalk pathway have been developed throughout the marina are to date and more is planned in the future. The pathway offers terrific views of the marina and Columbia River, while providing multi-modal access from the City of Kalama to Port recreational and industrial areas.

The Port of Kalama boasts one of the few developed access points to the Lower Columbia River with a large sand beach at Ahle Point. The beach has a variety of recreational uses, including fishing and swimming, and has become popular as a windsurfing area for those with beginning and intermediate windsurfing skill levels.
